SUDS are really pleased that Kate Grey who competes for Great Britain as a swimmer and is a potential Olympian for both 2008 and 2012 has agreed to be our Patron. Kate who attends the Castle School in Thornbury has been involved in many sports and is an accomplished netball player and athlete. However over recent years she has increasingly concentrated on her swimming as she gained more and more representative honours. We hope to watch Kate’s progress as she prepares for the Beijing and London Olympics and hopefully bringing back a medal for Great Britain and SUDS. A few questions for you to answer so we can put them into an athlete profile on the web site. What were your first sporting experiences? Competing in my first national swimming competition in 1999 held in Darlington. I was disqualified in my first race probably because I was so nervous, but then I won 2 bronze medals, which I was very pleased about. What are your biggest achievements? Representing Great Britain at the IPC World championships in Dec 2006 held in South Africa. I won a silver medal in the women’s 4x100 medley relay and reaching the finals and coming sixth in both the 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley. What is you main focus and goal at moment? In terms of my swimming career, to maintain good training in the Lead up to the Paralympic trials next year and my ultimate goal is to represent Great Britain in the 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games and potential get on to the medal podium. Once I’ve completed my A-levels I would ideally like to study a degree at Bath University, therefore I can continue my swimming training and also carrying on studying for a degree in sports development and coaching. How often and where do you train? I currently train at Thornbury Leisure Centre for Thornbury swimming Club. I train 8 times a week usually for 2 hours and also 3 1hour land based training sessions usually in the gym What do you hope to achieve over the next 5 years? I hope to pass my A-level exams and study a degree at Bath University And represent Great Britain at the 2008 Paralympic Games where I will hopefully win a medal(s). |
