Geoff Plant: International Deaf Bowls Championships 5 – 10 September 2007 Geoff Plant has returned from the Fifth International Deaf Bowls Championships as a medallist. Geoff, who is employed at Rolls-Royce, Bristol, was representing England in the fours competition at Llandrindod Wells. Along with team-mates Eddie Vidler, Ian Stafford and Andrew Owens, he claimed the bronze, finishing behind Scotland and Ireland. “It was hard work because matches were played on mornings and afternoons with a maximum break of half-an-hour for lunch,” Said Geoff. “Matches started at 9am and 1.30pm, some lasted for four hours and some went on for 21 ends but we had seven days of glorious sunshine without any wind.” Countries represented at the championship included Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand and Australia. “I’ve made new friends and many of us exchanged addresses and e-mails,” said Geoff. The next international championships will be held in Perth, Australia, in 2011.
